The Origin of Jesus: Foretells With Remarkable Precision
When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’” – Matthew 2:3-6
Another important fact we ought to know about Jesus is that the circumstances of His birth were not just foretold by men of God thousands of years before His birth; His eventual birth and fulfilment of those things said about Him later were with amazing precision.
We have considered before how He was a fulfilment of many prophecies (please read that here). The scenario that ensued when the astrologers from the far east went to look for Him in the palace of Herod was a sharp pointer to this position. Herod, upon hearing that a king was born and not by any member of his own household, immediately summoned scribes to find out what had been written about this coming King.
That was what led to the resurfacing of the prophecy of Micah, an 8th-century BCE prophet who declared which town Jesus would be born in (Micah 5:2). Indeed, it is nothing short of remarkable the accuracy with which the circumstances of Jesus’ birth, His life and ministry, fulfilled many prophecies, most of them said or written thousands of years before He was born.
If nothing else attests to His divinity, and this is grossly understating the fact, that does. He is divine and forever reigns in glory.

The Origin of Jesus – He Was Born A Superstar
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” – Matthew 2:1-2
Another fact about the origin of Jesus was that He was not just born a King, He was also born a Superstar. While the word “superstar” can be taken in a colloquial sense, it is a literal term in the description of Jesus, as the passage above indicates.
The Scripture says wise men from the far East travelled all the way from their region to come and pay obeisance to Him. Why? Because they saw His star shining so brightly even in their own faraway country. And that attracted their attention because they knew it wasn’t an ordinary star.
Mind, these were astrologers, men who were learned and grounded in astral science as far as it went in those days. That means they were not men of small means. The fact that they felt compelled to travel several kilometers through settlements, hills and valleys to trace the origin proved that the star they saw, the Star of Jesus, left a mighty great impression on them; one that they could not ignore.
So with such a pedigree, it’s little surprise that Jesus grew up to achieve awe-inspiring feats on earth, some of them no one has done before Him or will ever do after Him. Thus, lending credence to His superstardom.

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” – Revelation 22:16

The Origin of Jesus – The Tribe of Judah and the House of David
The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, and to Him shall be the obedience of the people. – Genesis 49:10
This prophecy by Jacob, the progenitor of the twelve tribes of Israel, was the first statement that settled the origin of Jesus Christ thousands of years before He was born. Although Judah was the fourth born, and not the one statutorily meant to inherit leadership, Jacob, through divine inspiration, declared him and his lineage the ruler of the other tribes.
By saying neither the scepter nor a lawgiver shall be absent from Judah, and that he would command the obedience of the people, Israel affirmed that Judah would rule in perpetuity. Note that this statement predates the eventual transition of the nation of Israel into a monarchy by over a thousand years.
However, this settled the issue of tribe; there was still the question of which of the family trees of Judah the king would come from. And here comes David, a man after God’s own heart, who impressed God so much with his sincere heart and devotion that God decided to honor him with an everlasting dynasty.
“And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.” – 2 Samuel 7
With the above promise, God Himself settled the particular family from which Jesus, the everlasting King, was going to be born, from the tribe of Judah. He was going to come from the house of David. Even when the successive heirs to David’s throne lost their reign over the years, as there was no king named from them by the time Jesus was finally born, His birth, death, resurrection and ascension to the heavenly throne at the right hand side of God signaled the activation of that divine promise that David would enjoy a dynasty that has no expiration.
Of the increase of His government and peace, there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. – Isaiah 9:7
